First Year Student Leadership Institute

A URI Leadership Tradition

Get a head start on your involvement at URI! The First-Year Student Leadership Institute is designed for students who have demonstrated leadership potential in high school, with the hope that these students will become active members of the URI community. This three-day leadership development program will be held at URI’s beautiful Alton Jones Campus from August 29th - August 31, 2008. During the Leadership Institute, students will develop leadership skills by participating in an outdoor adventure program and by engaging in self-exploration exercises. Students will learn about communication, trust, interpersonal relationships, and personal risk-taking as they participate in a series of games and problem-solving initiatives. In addition, students will work together as they examine issues of multiculturalism, inclusion, civic and community participation. Involvement and leadership opportunities available to URI students will also be presented. The Leadership Institute is held over Labor Day weekend. The cost for the program is $125; limited scholarships and financial aid are available.
