ODK® - A Society of People Devoted to Excellence
The Omicron Delta Kappa Society is the national leadership honor society for college students, faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni that recognizes and encourages superior scholarship, leadership, and exemplary character. Membership in ODK® is a mark of the highest distinction and honor.
The Society recognizes achievement in five areas:
Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society, was founded December 3, 1914 at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia by 15 student and faculty leaders. The founders formulated the idea that leadership of exceptional quality and versatility in college should be recognized, that representatives in all phases of college life should cooperate in worthwhile endeavors, and that outstanding students, faculty, and administrators should meet on a basis of mutual interest, understanding and helpfulness.
The University of Rhode Island Circle of ODK® was colonized in May 2000. Since that time our Circle has recognized over 100 leaders . On May 3, 2003 our URI Circle began to recognize outstanding Citizen Leaders and Outstanding Alumni for their contributions to the community and as contributors for a better society. Another unique feature of our Circle is our recognition of Outstanding Freshman and Outstanding Sophomore student leaders. We believe that leadership is an evolving process that begins at the freshman level. Therefore we recognize outstanding freshman and sophomore student leaders with a certificate of merit to encourage these rising stars to continue their service to the URI community and to the community at large.
